GO GREEN

The U.S. Open “Go Green’’ program created their 26,000 lanyards this year by using crushed tennis cans from the 2011 Open, according to a USTA spokesman. The lanyards are used by media/players to hold their credentials and also can be purchased on the grounds. The lanyards were made from 500 pounds of tennis ball cans that were crushed into flakes at Boro-Wide Recycling in Maspeth, Long Island.

LMFAO CLINGS TO TENNIS

Redfoo, a member of the hit music group LMFAO, is at the U.S. Open, sowing his wild oats by coaching junior player, Ayaka Okuno, a 17-year-old from Japan who now lives in southern California. Redfoo, trying to keep close to his junior tennis roots, met Okuno in an airport a few months ago and chatted her up. She will play in the U.S. Junior Open and Redfoo is helping with her mental game. “Any person I see with a tennis bag I go up to,’’ Redfoo told The Post.

In his trademark multi-colored outfit with supersized white glasses, Redfoo reflected on his junior tennis career, when he played the 14’s and 16’s. He can talk tennis all day and sat in Samantha Stosur’s box Wednesday night and met retiring Kim Clijsters yesterday in the player garden.

UPSET OF THE DAY

Fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France lost a second-round stunner to unranked Martin Klizan in four sets, 4-6, 6-1, 1-6, 3-6. Tsonga had been to the quarterfinals in four of the past five Grand Slam events, and hadn’t lost as early as the second round in a Grand Slam since 2007. Klizan advanced to the third round in a major for the first time.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

I knew for a while. I’ve known Andy for so many years since we were 10 years old and he told me that this would probably be his last tournament. I was hoping he would change his mind, but I guess not. I’m not retiring, just for the record. You haven’t seen the last of me yet.
