Cruise’s bizarre wife hunt

Scientology honchos had handpicked a different leading lady for Tom Cruise before his ill-fated marriage to Katie Holmes — but the “Mission: Impossible” star broke up with the woman after a bizarre, two-month courtship that ended with Cruise’s dumped gal pal scrubbing toilets and digging ditches, according to a magazine article.

Iranian-born actress Nazanin Boniadi dated Cruise from November 2004 to January 2005 after an intense, monthlong screening process by the wife of Scientology chief David Miscavige, Vanity Fair reports in its October issue.

Boniadi told a Scientology official her deepest secrets — including every detail of her sex life — and was forced to ditch her braces, red highlights and boyfriend before she was ready to date Cruise.

After a blissful first month — and a lavish first date in New York — the relationship disintegrated as Cruise reported any minor problem with Boniadi to Scientology chiefs, Vanity Fair says.

Cruise shunned Boniadi after she “disrespected” David Miscavige by simply saying “Excuse me?” after David spoke to her very quickly, the report says.

When a heartbroken Boniadi cried to a friend after the breakup, Scientology punished her for breaking a confidentiality agreement, forcing her to scrub toilets with a toothbrush and dig ditches in the middle of the night, the mag says.

Scientology reps disputed the article, Vanity Fair reports, saying there was no such secret project, and that they do not punish followers.
