PLAYERS TO WATCH: HS football, 2012 season

DE Ebenezer Ogundeko, Thomas Jefferson

New York State’s top prospect, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound pass-rushing dynamo has a choice of the country’s top BCS programs to choose from, such as Notre Dame, Florida, Syracuse, Arizona State and Ole Miss. Before he picks a college – he is expected to announce his decision in late December or early January — Ogundeko plans to lead Jefferson to a winning regular season and possibly Yankee Stadium, site of the PSAL City Championship division championship game.

RB/LB Augustus Edwards Tottenville

The Syracuse-bound bruiser is leaner and faster than last season, when he ran for 995 yards and 10 touchdowns, and wants to end his career with an elusive PSAL title after two straight semifinal defeats.

WR/TE Jordan Fuchs, Christ the King

A dynamic 6-foot-6 wide receiver/tight end with offers from Connecticut and Rutgers, the two-sport star Fuchs is hoping to put Christ the King’s football program on the map under new coach Tyree Allison, a former NFL lineman.

RB/WR/DB James Gales, Brooklyn Tech

The dynamic 5-foot-11 senior, a difference-making playmaker since his sophomore season, will be used in every way possible this fall, as a running back, wide receiver, punt and kickoff returner, and even under center in a Wildcat formation.

G/DT Jay Hayes, Poly Prep

The massive 6-foot-5, 270-pound two-way lineman, one of the nation’s top prospects in the Class of 2014, will try to help Poly bounce back from a subpar season as he weighs offers from Michigan, Oregon and Notre Dame, among others.

RB/DB Kahlil Lewin, Erasmus Hall

His memorable 53-yard run in last December’s PSAL championship game made ESPN Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays, a preview of what’s to come for opposing defenses when it comes to the explosive junior.

QB James McHale, Fordham Prep

The junior’s major leap forward has coach Pete Gorynski doing back flips thinking about the accurate signal-caller’s impact with so many talented weapons around him.

RB/LB Brandon Pelzer, Holy Cross

The physical junior is part of the best linebacking corps. coach Tom Pugh said he’s ever had and is primed for a big year after a concussion set him back last fall.

WR/DB Travon Reid Seguire, Fort Hamilton

A torn ACL cut his junior season short, but the versatile and highly recruited senior is healthy and ready to make an impact on both sides of the ball for perennial contender Fort Hamilton.

RB Laray Smith, Xaverian

The CHSFL’s top running back, a blazing track & field star who has offers from Connecticut, Syracuse and Tennessee, hopes to lead the Clippers to the ‘AAA’ final this year.
