It was his assistant’s fault.

Actor Nicolas Cage reimbursed a Los Angeles movie shop Saturday, four months after he rented two DVDs and failed to return them.

After Old Bank DVD couldn’t get in touch with Cage, employees took to Facebook, mocking the “Face/Off” actor by posting photos of Cage’s face superimposed on celebrities’ bodies.

The Facebook war drew national media attention, attention which frustrated Cage.

Nic was “somewhat put off by the media circus surrounding the issue of his late DVDs that were supposed to have been returned by an assistant before going on location,” store employees wrote online.

Employees say Cage was understanding of the jokes, and he reimbursed the store for the DVDs and late fees. As a sign of the store’s appreciation, Old Bank DVD is offering customers one free Nicolas Cage movie with a weekend rental.

“And that’s like half our store … that’s one hard-working actor,” employees wrote online.

Hard-working, indeed – Cage is attached to 10 different upcoming movies, including “The Expendables 3.”
