Ex-Dow prez joins Time Inc.

Former Dow Jones President Todd Larsen, who left in June when he was bypassed for the CEO job that went to Lex Fenwick, is joining Time Inc., where he will be president of the news and sports group.

The flagships of the group are Time and Sports Illustrated, which had been functioning independently for the past year but will be merged back together.

Mark Ford, who had been running a combined news/sports group but then stuck with the sports group as its president after the bust-up, will now report to Larsen instead of to CFO Howard Averill.

News of the appointment was first reported by Adweek.com and confirmed by Time Inc. insiders. News Corp. owns Dow Jones and The Post.

The move is part of a strategy by Time Inc. CEO Laura Lang to get consumers to pay more for content. “We give too much of our content away for free,” Lang has told insiders.
