Partying with Tehran terrorists

The Issue: Iran’s hosting the Non-Aligned Movement conference and challenges to Western power.

The conference of non-aligned nations being held in Tehran is an international disgrace (“Tehran’s Tilt-a-World,” Benny Avni, PostOpinion, Aug. 26).

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an exporter of worldwide terrorism.

Yet he is afforded stature and significance by the presence of representatives from countries including Egypt, Afghanistan and India, and, perhaps most shamefully, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

What will come out of this unholy gathering? Certainly nothing of value to the civilized world. The goal of this gathering is to defeat sanctions against Iran and to rally world forces against the West — particularly the United States.

If Afghanistan is cozying up to a regime that is our mortal enemy while American troops continue sacrificing life and limb to keep it free, how hostile a posture might it adopt toward its savior and benefactor when our soldiers depart?

America’s loss of power and prestige in the Middle East is precisely what this administration wanted from the get-go, so one shouldn’t be too surprised by the United States’ abandonment of practically all matters concerning the Middle East. Israel will have to defend itself from annihilation if President Obama wins a second term. I know Benjamin Netanyahu isn’t a fan favorite, but he’s absolutely right about Iran.

Once Iran gets a nuclear weapon, it will use it against Israel. Iran and the Palestinians know that after Tehran “wipes Israel off the map,” this administration will not do a damn thing in retaliation.

“Lead from behind” sums up this administration’s foreign policy. It is, in reality, an excuse to look the other way.
