DOUBLE TROUBLE

Brian Battistone and has wacky racket have left the U.S. Open. Battistone — the only player on the pro tour using an odd racket with two handles — and Nicole Melichar lost to Nuria Llagostera Vives and David Marrero 6-7, 3-6 in mixed doubles.

“Any time you do some unbelievably different you’ve got to expect the questions, comments, snickering and all those things,’’ Battistone said. “And at an event where there happens to be a lot more people its jus magnified a little bit.’’

UPSET OF THE DAY

Two days after ending Kim Clijsters’ singles career, Laura Robson of Great Britain continued her Cinderella run by beating Li Na 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2 to advance to the fourth round. Next up, Robson will face her third former Grand Slam champion in a row in Samantha Stosur, who won last year’s U.S. Open.
