Murray comes back in three tiebreakers in Open third round

No. 3 Andy Murray came from behind to win all three tiebreakers against 30th-seeded Feliciano Lopez and advance to the fourth round of the U.S. Open with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (4) victory Saturday.

Murray, trying to add his first Grand Slam title to the Olympic gold medal he captured last month, won eight fewer points in the match but was tougher when the stakes were highest.

In the second tiebreaker, Lopez framed a forehand out to drop set point. In the last tiebreaker, Lopez tried a drop shot on match point that didn’t clear the net. Those were two of the Spaniard’s 55 unforced errors. He also had 68 winners.

Murray won his 250th career match on hard courts while improving to 104-65 lifetime in tiebreakers.
