McIlroy leads, Woods two shots back at Deutsche

NORTON, Mass. — The Deutsche Bank Championship has had a fair amount of heavyweight battles in its 10-year history. This Labor Day weekend is shaping up as another one featuring two generations of stars.

Rory McIlroy made an eagle on one par 5 and scrambled for a bogey on another par 5 during an otherwise steady round of 6-under 65 to give him a one-shot lead over Louis Oosthuizen.

Two shots back was Tiger Woods, who didn’t make nearly as many putts as he did in the opening round. Woods still managed a 68. The tournament ends on Labor Day, so Sunday figures to go a long way in sorting out whether Woods and McIlroy can stage a duel on the TPC Boston.

Still, there were nine players separated by three shots.
