This week’s couple: Quiet time!

DAVID, 25, a part-time musician, met his date Emily, 24, an associate for a non-profit, at Smoke Jazz Club on the Upper West Side. The duo enjoyed a romantic meal, while taking in two sets by jazz vocalist Gregory Generet — and getting shushed by audience members. (Oops!) So, did David and Emily strike the right chord with each other?

He said:

We sat around a table in the back. The setting was quite lovely; red velvet draped the walls, and the melodious clink of wine glasses and silverware died down as we sat back to enjoy the performance.

I liked the way Emily carried herself — confident but not vain. She and I had a fair amount in common, and spent several hours dining and discussing the upcoming election, among other topics.

Overall, she proved engaging and affable, with a refreshing Midwestern charm, which is sometimes lacking in New York. It was a copacetic evening and I would gladly make plans with Emily again.

She said:

I was a little frazzled when I showed up, but upon meeting David, who seemed totally normal, I was relieved to find him funny and friendly.

David and I have a lot of similar views on politics and other things, which made the night easy. His experience with music added a little something extra since we were at a jazz show.

It was also really refreshing to not talk about jobs immediately. I hate that. But we were shushed more than once for talking during the performance!

Besides that, the place was great! Fantastic music, good food and really great service.

I didn’t get to know David too well because of the talking/performance issue, but everything was fun and enjoyable. I can’t say if there’s potential for romance, but I’d give him another shot.
