Kimberly Ovitz

I am very happy to report that my first runway show of New York Fashion Week spring 2013 was none other than Kimberly Ovitz.

Her ethereal Spring line reminded me of a sort of limbo between Greek goddesses and mermaids, most notably due to the line’s killer combination of silver cuffs and draped fabrics mixed with fishtail braids.

Upon arriving at her show the first thing I noticed was that the runway was made out of clay, which added an unintended humorous element as guests unknowingly stepped all over it in an attempt to find their seats. But I found the clay went really well with her earth-tone pieces, as well as the decision for her models to walk barefoot down the runway. Her looks made me think of a wanderer — a woman who is strong in spirit and minimal in attire — someone who is unable to be tied down.

Overall, my two favorite aspects of Ovitz’s show were the general effortlessness and wearability of her line. Less is more for Ovitz and somehow she was able to depict strong women by designing minimalist pieces, which seems almost like an oxymoron. In terms of the wearability, it is very rare that I see a runway show that I can actually picture myself in any of the clothes. This was not the case today at Kimberly Ovitz, and for that I salute her!
