Woe-sendorf

The trustee overseeing Peregrine Financial, formerly headed by Russell Wasendorf, the Midwest Madoff, said the brokerage’s liabilities are almost twice its assets of $270.2 million. Assets were estimated at $500 million to $1 billion when the firm filed for bankruptcy in July, while liabilities were estimated at $250 million to $500 million.

Apple slices

Apple has shifted some memory-chip orders for its upcoming iPhone from Samsung to other chip makers. Samsung, which competes with Apple in the smartphone market and recently lost a patent suit to Apple, is also one of its biggest component suppliers.
