A policeman shot and killed an emotionally disturbed man who threatened him with a knife in Springfield Gardens yesterday, police said.
Cops said they received a call that a man had a knife to his own neck at 165-43 144th Terrace around 4:45 p.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 27-year-old man on the second floor acting irrationally and holding a kitchen knife high above his head.
The officers demanded he drop the weapon several times, but the crazed man lunged forward with the knife toward one of the officers before getting shot once in the shoulder.
The wounded man was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.
The officer, who is from the 105th Precinct, was taken to North Manhasset Medical Center suffering from tinnitus. Police said two other people were home at the time of the shooting.
