Respecting the 9/11 memorial

The Issue: Whether tourists visiting Ground Zero are showing appropriate respect for the memorial.

I am outraged by the lack of respect from people visiting Ground Zero (“It’s Play Ground Zero Now,” Sept. 2).

The carnival atmosphere is sickening. On a recent visit to Pearl Harbor, I saw that there is absolutely no eating, drinking, partying or photo-ops, but only silence and respect for the dead. It is strictly enforced.

My nephew, a New York City firefighter, gave his life on 9/11 so that others might live. Please give him and the nearly 3,000 others the respect and dignity that they deserve.

In 2008, roughly half of the American people elected a president and an administration that routinely shows its contempt, disregard and disrespect for our Constitution, laws and very way of life.

Why should we be outraged or surprised when roughly half the visitors to the 9/11 Memorial behave like clueless, disrespectful morons?
