Secret ‘Doctor’

Dr. Grace Devlin (Jordana Spiro) is a top resident at Chicago’s Roosevelt Medical Center with several ethical problems. To pay off her brother’s life-threatening gambling debt, she agrees to provide medical services for the mob. Dr. Devlin removes bullets from dead bodies to hide incriminating evidence, saves a juiced-up racehorse and covertly helping an aging mobster with his erectile dysfunction. It’s a busy day, to be sure, and she’s also good at keeping secrets — from her best friend, Ro (Floriana Lima); her beau (Zach Gilford); her boss (Zeljko Ivanek) and even her brother, Nate (Jesse Lee Soffer). Only mob boss Constantine Alexander (William Forsythe) knows the true scope of Grace’s activities.

Nothing like a Dame

For those experiencing “Downton Abbey” syndrome —a fainting feeling best cured by new episodes of the witty British costume drama — a partial remedy has arrived. Turner Classic Movies gives us two Maggie Smith movies on one night (seems too good to be true, but it is). Smith, who capped off the 1960s by winning one Oscar for her devastating performance in “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie,” was a hot property there for a while. In her Hollywood prime, she also received a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for stealing “California Suite” away from an ensemble cast that included bigger stars such as Jane Fonda and Michael Caine. In between those films, she made “Travels With My Aunt,” based on the Graham Greene novel about an eccentric rich redhead (Smith) who convinces her dull nephew (Alec McCowen) to traipse around the world with him. In “Love, Pain and the Whole Damn Thing,” Smith stars as an introvert who has a love affair with an aimless, much younger man, played by Timothy Bottoms.

In the absence of Jimmy and the Commodore, Gillian (Gretchen Mol) builds a new business while monitoring Richard’s mentoring of her “son,” Tommy. In Chicago, Al Capone (Stephen Graham) is rankled by Irish mobster Dean O’Banion (Arron Shiver), and Van Alden (Michael Shannon) enccounters a simple twist of fate.
