The drunken-driving case against New York Knick star Jason Kidd will not be a slam dunk for prosecutors, his lawyer said yesterday.
The point guard plans to vigorously fight charges that he was sloshed when he careened down a Hamptons street and smashed his SUV into a tree after a night of partying this summer.
“He is taking this very, very seriously,” high-powered lawyer Edward Burke Jr. said after Kidd’s brief appearance at Southampton Town Justice Court, where he received a Nov. 7 court date.
“He wants to get this past him as quickly as possible. The legal process takes some time, but he is ready for the season [which begins Nov. 1 for the Knicks],” Burke added, saying he needed more time to review evidence.
Kidd arrived in a black Infiniti SUV — with a driver — and was dressed in a pinstripe suit.
He was hit with a stop-sign violation and a rap for refusing a breath test. He suffered minor injuries in the crash.
