‘60 Min’ sports show to rival HBO

CBS is creating a monthly version of “60 Minutes” for the pay-cable channel Showtime devoted to sports stories.

60 Minutes of Sports” will begin in November and look and sound like the regular “60 Minutes,” a spokesman said.

The show will begin with the trademark tick-tick-tick sound of a stop watch and have no single host.

Instead, the correspondents — all the “60 Minutes” regulars plus CBS sports reporters James Brown and Jim Nantz — will introduce themselves every week.

The show is apparently intended to compete with “Real Sports,” HBO’s monthly sports magazine with Bryant Gumbel.

CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager — who is listed as executive producer of the new sports show — said “60 Minutes” has been looking for ways to expand the show’s famous brand into new areas.
