Trim Obama weighs in on Letterman

WASHINGTON — President Obama to Dave: Keep your shirt on!

Making his second appearance as president on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” Obama yesterday reported he now weighs 180 pounds, prompting a compliment from the host.

To which the prez replied, “You look sharp.”

“You haven’t seen me naked,” Letterman said.

“We’re going to keep it that way,” quipped Obama during a taping amid his fund-raising foray to New York last night.

Later in the evening, he was at a fund-raiser at the 40/40 Club — where guests paid $40,000 apiece — hosted by the hot spot’s owner, Jay-Z, and his wife, Beyoncé.

“I can’t tell you how proud we are to host [this] event,” Beyoncé told the crowd.

The president added that he and Jay-Z have a lot in common.

“We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are. We’ve got a little bond there.”

Obama then joked that wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia were angry they couldn’t be there.

“Beyoncé could not be a better role model for my girls,” he said.

On Letterman’s show, the host asked if Obama wanted to address an empty chair. The president laughed but didn’t take the bait, declining to mock Clint Eastwood’s weird improv performance talking to an invisible Obama in an empty seat at the GOP convention last month.

Turning to serious matters, Obama said his top priority in the Middle East was to make sure justice is done in the slayings last week of four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, in Libya.

Obama also made his first public comments on a video recording released Monday of a fund-raiser where Mitt Romney described 47 percent of the population as “victims” who get government handouts and who will never support him.

“One of the things I learned as president is you represent the entire country,” Obama said.

“If you want to be president, you have to work for everyone. There are not a lot of people out there who think they’re victims. When I won in 2008, 47 percent of the American people voted for John McCain.”

“They didn’t vote for me and what I said on election night was: ‘Even though you didn’t vote for me, I hear your voices, and I’m going to work as hard as I can to be your president.’ ”

On the economy, Letterman told Obama: “I need someone to blame,” prompting Obama to talk about a decade’s worth of problems. “Can I blame Biden?” asked Letterman.

“I love Joe,” Obama responded.

After taping his appearance on Letterman last night, Obama headed to the Waldorf, where he attended a big-bucks fund-raiser for 200 people.

Next he was set to attend a $40,000-per-person fund-raiser hosted by Beyoncé and Jay-Z at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club, before jetting back to DC.
