Aperture Foundation, the leading nonprofit foundation dedicated to promoting photography, will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary beginning in Fall 2012. Founded in 1952 by some of the most significant photographers of all time, including Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Barbara Morgan, Minor White and others, Aperture was established as “common ground for the advancement of photography,” and for sixty years since has fostered the exchange of ideas among audiences worldwide and promoted wide public interest in the story of photography. The sixtieth anniversary celebrations will culminate with a star-studded gala and photography auction at Gotham Hall, New York. The auction will feature 60 works by 60 leading photographers including Chuck Close, Hank Willis Thomas, Sally Mann, Vik Muniz and William Wegman.
