Roberts starts bone-marrow transplant

Robin Roberts will begin to undergo bone-marrow transplant tomorrow morning, she says.

Roberts (pictured), the “Good Morning America” co-host who’s on medical leave while being treated for a rare immune disease, posted a message on the show’s blog yesterday updating viewers on her progress.

“Last Sunday, to lift my spirits, I threw a little party at my apartment for my ‘GMA’ family,” Roberts wrote.

“The start of last week went well but the daily chemo/treatment caught up to me by the weekend,” she wrote. “My body is so weak but not my mind. YOU give me the courage to keep going.”

Roberts, 51, has been off the air since late August preparing for her bone-marrow transplant — the donor is her big sister, Sally — to help fight MDS, a blood disease believed to be triggered by chemotherapy drugs.

Roberts underwent chemo while battling breast cancer in 2007.

Her doctor, Dr. Gail Roboz, will visit “GMA” tomorrow to update viewers on Robin’s condition.
