Jets Blitz

HERO

Santonio Holmes (right) was a goat the last time he was in Miami, getting kicked out of the huddle by his own teammates, but the Jets’ mercurial wideout redeemed himself in a big way yesterday with nine catches for 147 yards — including a 38-yarder in OT to set up the winning field goal. It was Holmes’ first 100-yard day in almost two years.

ZERO

The Dolphins’ normally reliable Dan Carpenter had a nightmarish day, with the one-time Pro Bowl kicker missing field-goal tries in the fourth quarter and OT that would have given Miami the victory. Carpenter was wide left on attempts from roughly the same distance (47 and 48 yards), allowing the Jets to escape.

UNSUNG HERO

Slot receiver Jeremy Kerley only had two catches, but both of them were huge. His 66-yard catch and run late in the third quarter allowed the Jets to immediately answer a TD that had put Miami up 17-10, and his 7-yard TD grab with 3:01 left in regulation helped pave the way for the win in OT. Kerley also averaged a healthy 15 yards on three punt returns.
