Chuck & Mitt want immig fix

WASHINGTON — Finally, an issue that liberal Sen. Charles Schumer and Mitt Romney can agree on: immigration.

The New York Democrat is pushing a bill to change the visa system to allow foreign students who get graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering and math to remain in the States.

“It makes no sense that America is educating the world’s smartest and most talented students, and then once they are at their full potential and mastered their craft, kicking them out the door,” Schumer said.

Schumer’s legislation would allow 55,000 students annually to stay.

Romney said at a forum last week sponsored by the Spanish-language television network Univision that he would “staple a green card” to diplomas of foreign students who earn advanced degrees in the United States.
