Jets report card

OFFENSE

This was an ugly, ugly performance from the offense, but it pulled it out in overtime. Mark Sanchez (21-of-45, 306 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs), had a terrible day despite the high yardage total. His two interceptions were brutal, but he made some good throws at the end. Santonio Holmes (9 receptions, 147 yards) had the biggest day he’s had in a long time. The running game is non-existent. D

DEFENSE

The Dolphins converted 53 percent of their third downs and the Jets allowed three drives of 11 plays or more. RB Reggie Bush (10 rushes, 61 yards) was ripping through the defense early before leaving with a knee injury. The Jets allowed some big completions by rookie QB Ryan Tannehill (16-of-36, 196 yards, 1 INT). LaRon Landry returned an interception for a touchdown to start the second half, the first good thing that happened for the Jets in the game. D

SPECIAL TEAMS

Tim Tebow gained a first down on a fake punt that kept a drive going, which resulted in a field goal. Nick Folk had three field goals, including the game-winner from 33 yards immediately after the Dolphins blocked an attempt that was whistled dead due to a timeout. The only knock was allowing a 31-yard kick return in the fourth quarter to start the Dolphins’ game-tying drive. B

COACHING

The Jets escaped with a win. Give Rex Ryan some credit for keeping his team together when it could have folded numerous times. Tony Sparano had some questionable play calls in his return to Miami. Give Ryan and special teams coordinator Mike Westoff credit for the gutsy fake punt call. C
