2013 bacon shortage ‘unavoidable’

That’s all folks!

Bacon and other pork products will be in short supply next year according Britain’s National Pig Association.

The slim pickings of porky products “is now unavoidable,” according to the NPA, because the cost of animal feed continues to rise worldwide.

The vicious cycle is the result of droughts in the United States which has caused the price of corn and soy — the primary ingredients in animal feed — to soar.

European Union farmers have already started culling their herds because they can’t afford to feed their pigs with industry output in England alone potentially dropping by 20%.

Output in the United States is also expected to drop.
