Silver puts out drag’Net

ALBANY — Warning to Assembly staffers: Surf the ’Net at your own risk.

Speaker Sheldon Silver’s office sent an electronic notice to employees on their work computers spelling out the Assembly’s Internet-usage policy.

The move came a day after Silver (D-Manhattan) yanked staff writer Bill Eggler’s Web privileges for using his Assembly computer to pose as blogger “Sophia Walker” and defend the speaker’s handling of sex-harassment charges against Assemblyman Vito Lopez. The Post first exposed Eggler’s alter ego Sophia.

Meanwhile, Albany Common Councilman Anton Konev, a former co-worker of Eggler’s who has been the target of critical blogs from “Sophia” going back at least two years, said Silver went too easy on his she-male defender, and should have fired him.

“Eggler must be let go,” said Konev, a former Forest Hills resident.

Also yesterday, state Republican chairman Ed Cox asked contributors and volunteers to help underwrite the GOP’s petition drive to oust Silver as speaker.
