Carroll Place the new place

The “Italian-influence” gastropub taking over the Kenny’s Castaways space on Bleecker Street signed a lease for the 6,000-square-foot space last week, Side Dish has learned.

The gastropub, called Carroll Place, will open next spring. Kenny’s Castaways closes tonight.

Carroll Place’s owners, brothers Sergio and Mario Riva, and partner AJ Bontempo, will keep the Kenny’s stage for its live music performances — where some of the biggest names in music, from Dylan to Springsteen, have played over the past 45 years.

Some of Kenny’s memorabilia will also be incorporated into the new space.

“We were born and raised in New York City, and had been going to Kenny’s since high school,” Sergio Riva said. “When we heard it was closing, we were very interested. Bleecker Street has been down in the dumps for the past 10 years. There used to be a high-end venue here, Life. But that closed and the energy left Bleecker. We believe it is coming back.”

Rafe Evans, of Walker Malloy & Co., brokered both sides of the deal.

The Riva brothers say they will be moving the bathrooms downstairs, where the kitchen will be, so they will be able to build a wider stage to hold bigger bands.

The Riva brothers also own The Diner Restaurant, on the corner of 14th Street and Ninth Avenue in the Meatpacking District; Osteria Cotta, on the Upper West Side, and La Follia, at 19th Street and Third Avenue.

The ONE Group is looking to bring Heraea, its female-friendly sports bar concept, to New York.

Jonathan Segal, CEO of the ONE Group, has been looking at spaces, including some around Grand Central Station.

Heraea (Ha-ray-uh) sports bar is named for an ancient Greek goddess who launched a female Olympics, since women were banned from competing in the boys’ games.

“It was the first move against the exploitation of women,” Segal said. Heraea will be focused on sports and music in a “comfortable environment with a real, proper menu — not just chicken wings and beer, but calorie conscious options as well,” Segal said.
