‘Sex for sale’ on Hudson

A popular section of Hudson River Park, near to where a young woman was raped just over a week ago, has become a randy red-light district teeming with transvestites, johns and lurid early-hours sex, residents and park workers say.

Just north of where a 21-year-old actress was allegedly attacked by a homeless man on Sept. 22, transvestite prostitutes openly ply their trade near Pier 45 at West 10th Street in scenes out of New York’s worst days in the ’70s and ’80s.

David Poster, president of neighborhood watch group Christopher Street Patrol, said the illicit sex affects surrounding streets.

“What I see is a lot of kids at night. A lot of them are prostituting on the streets and around the pier,” he said “They drift along Christopher Street and harass and assault business owners and local residents,” he said.
