LI school bus driver charged with DWI after crash into home: police

Syosset — Police on Long Island say a school bus driver has been charged with DWI following a crash.

Five children between 5 and 9 were not injured in Wednesday’s accident in Syosset. The bus crashed into a home.

Nassau County police say the injured driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Frederick Flowers of Massapequa Park faces aggravated DWI charges because children were in the vehicle. He also faces child endangerment and reckless driving charges. He pleaded not guilty Thursday at a hospital arraignment. Bail was set at $50,000. His attorney said he was still investigating the circumstances of the arrest.

A bus company spokeswoman said Flowers has been employed since 2009 and has a clean driving record. She said he passed all pre-employment screenings, which included drug and alcohol testing.
