iPhone plant workers strike

Workers on Foxconn Technology Group’s iPhone 5 production lines at the company’s plant in Zhengzhou, China, went on strike yesterday, said advocacy group China Labor Watch.

“Three to four thousand” production employees walked off the job after being made to work through the week-long National Day break and being subject to “overly strict” product-quality demands without proper training, the group said.

Most participants in the strike worked on the quality-control line, China Labor Watch said. There had been conflicts between quality-control inspectors and line workers over phones that didn’t meet standards, it said. The employees were still out at 11 p.m. yesterday.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
