Cops have uncovered a child’s remains buried in the backyard of a Farmingdale, LI home.

The longtime boyfriend of the missing infant’s mother is a “person of interest” in the case, authorities said today.

The discovery came after police were called to check on the welfare of the autistic 6-year-old son of Robert Rodriguez and Heather Kowalczik.

A police interview with Kowalczik revealed a dark family secret: the unreported death of her youngest son, Justin, who was born in 2009. Rodriguez is not Justin’s father, police said.

Rodriguez was quickly fingered as a potential suspect in Justin’s death, prompting him to allegedly flee with the 9-year-old son he has with Kowalczik.

The older boy’s disappearance from school on Wednesday prompted a brief Amber alert. He was ultimately found safe in the compnay of his father.

Neighbors told The Post another son of the couple, who is six years old, has been in the hospital, suffering from dehydration.

Kowalczik apparently told cops that another child died just after the family moved to Long Island from upstate Orange County about two years ago, but they never told anyone about the child’s demise.

A search lead police to the couple’s Hallock Road back yard, where they found the remains of “a human” in a three-foot deep hole in the far corner of the property.

The medical examiner is investigating the identity of the remains as well as the cause of death, said police, who are waiting for confirmation that body is that of little Justin.
