Starr Report

Trisha Goddard’s freshman daytime talk show faces a disadvantage in that it’s airing on mostly lower-rated independent stations and CW stations nationwide.

But “Trisha Goddard” has, by all accounts, acquitted itself nicely thus far in its young run. The show, which premiered Sept. 17 — and airs here on CBS-owned Ch. 55 at 5 p.m. — clocked the biggest week-to-week surge (25 percent in households) of any new talk show for the week ending Sept. 30 and averaged 593,000 viewers nationally.

“Trisha” has performed strongly on Ch. 55, where it’s the station’s most-watched show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., averaging 55,000 total viewers from 5 to 6 p.m. It’s also the station’s top-rated daytime show among women (across all female demos).

The British-born Goddard, by the way, is no talk-show novice. She hosted the morning show, “Trisha” on Britain’s ITV, and then the re-named “Trisha Goddard” on England’s Channel 5, from 1998-2010. Her fellow ITVer, Jeremy Kyle, hosts his American talk show on Ch. 9.

Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper’s “Anderson Live” was up 10 percent in households over its previous week to lead the pack — in week-to-week increase — among the returning talk shows. It was also up 67 percent in women 25-54 from its previous week (and 100 percent in that demo from its year-ago timeslot average).
