Saunders gets ball for Orioles vs. Yankees

Orioles left-hander Joe Saunders and righty teammate Chris Tillman sat shoulder to shoulder awaiting the questions about Baltimore’s starter for Thursday night’s Game 4 against the Yankees. It will be one of them, but which …

“We were kind of hoping you would tell us because we don’t know yet,” Saunders said to the several dozen inquiring mind media types assembled before them.

BOX SCORE

Well, they found out later in the night. Saunders, who pitched and won the Orioles wild-card playoff game in Texas last Thursday, received the honor of keeping the Orioles, down 2-1 in the series after Wednesday night’s 3-2, 12-inning loss, alive in the ALDS.

“We feel good about both of them,” manager Buck Showalter said. “Joe obviously coming off a real good start in a pressure situation, a game that we had to win, and he’ll find himself back in that spot again. Joe is a guy that gives you a chance to win, and he’ll compete, and he knows we feel good with him out there.”
