Comical terror scare

A father and son headed to a comic-book convention sparked massive delays and a security scare on the Long Island Rail Road yesterday when they boarded a train to Manhattan decked out in army gear and fake weaponry.

The dopey duo — clad in head-to-toe camouflage — got on the 12:32 train to Penn Station at Valley Stream toting real-looking guns.

A crew member noticed the pair before the train even pulled out of the station.

He promptly called cops to investigate.

Clueless passengers on board had no idea why the train was being held up.

Nassau County cops arrived and pulled the two men off for questioning.

Once officers determined that the weapons were fake and the two were headed to the New York Comic Con — which opened yesterday at the Javits Center — the duo were sent on their way with no charges filed.

“If they went as Batman and Robin, nobody really would have raised an eyebrow,” joked LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena.

The army costumes, he noted, “would give anyone pause.”

“We’re sorry there was a delay, but I’m sure everyone involved realizes the crew did what they had to do.

“The safety of our passengers is the number one priority.”
