Giants’ Nicks is optimistic about taking field

Despite being listed as questionable for Sunday’s NFC title-game rematch in San Francisco, Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks is optimistic he will play tomorrow against the 49ers.

“Yeah. I’d like to see what the coaches are going to say, what they’re going to say about it in the morning and what the trainers are going to say, but I think I’ve got a pretty good shot,’’ said Nicks, who has sat out the last three games due to swelling in his left knee and pain in his surgically repaired right foot.

“I did the majority of the practice — about four or five reps a period, about what I’d normally do on a Friday practice. I did good.I had Coach watching me, asking how I looked, was I compensating or anything. I wasn’t, so I looked good. I feel good about it. We’ll see how I respond in the morning and then they’ll let me know.’’

Nicks, who hurt his knee in the Week 2 victory over Tampa Bay, has 14 catches for 237 yards and a touchdown in the two games he has played this year.

“He looks good,” Victor Cruz said. “He caught a few balls. He was out there looking fluid. It’s good to see him back.” “Only he knows how he feels and the training staff and the communication he has with them. Hopefully, we got him out there full speed, ready to go, making plays. That would be a bonus for us.”

“Anytime you go in there and you’ve got another weapon like Hakeem there, he’s got to be accounted for and it’s always positive for us and our offense.’’

Nicks practiced Thursday and appeared unhindered and moving well while cutting and jumping during the portion of yesterday’s practice that was open to the media.

* Safety Kenny Phillips (knee), DT Rocky Bernard (quad) and RB Andre Brown (concussion) are out, with Stevie Brown starting for the Phillips and Markus Kuhn for Bernard. Rookie David Wilson will see increased snaps.

CB Corey Webster (hand/hamstring), OT David Diehl (knee) and Nicks are questionable. TE Martellus Bennett (knee) said he plans to play, saying: “I’m always good — unicorn blood.’’
