Blinging it on at auction

It’s bling that only the top 1 percent — of the top 1 percent — can afford.

Two pear-shaped diamond ear pendants weighing 117 carats with accompanying circular diamonds are expected to sell for upward of $6.5 million at auction here next week.

“To have any single 50-carat diamond is in itself a rarity. To have a pair of them is a great event,” said Rahul Kadakia, head of jewelry for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland.

In all, more than 300 lots from master jewelers like Tiffany, Harry Winston and Van Cleef & Arpels will be on display at Christie’s in Rockefeller Center before going under the hammer Tuesday. The sellers are not identified, Kadakia said.

But next month, Christie’s Geneva will display a platinum Patek Philippe watch with a famous owner — Eric Clapton. The perpetual-calendar chronograph with moon phases, one of just two made, is valued at $4 million.
