Life for jail slay

A man was sentenced to life in prison in the jailhouse killing of a mobster who once testified on behalf of Mafia heir John “Junior” Gotti.

Allen Archie Hurley was sentenced Friday in federal court in the April 2010 stabbing death of 43-year-old Joseph O’Kane in the federal prison in upstate Wayne County.

Hurley had been serving a 37-year bank-robbery sentence while O’Kane was serving a life sentence for murder and racketeering.

Prosecutors said Hurley, 46, stabbed O’Kane in the head 92 times, later telling investigators that they’d had a physical altercation earlier and he wanted to finish O’Kane off rather than risk retaliation.

Jurors in June acquitted him of second-degree murder but convicted him of voluntary manslaughter and illegal weapon possession. The life sentence was mandatory due to the earlier felony conviction.
