ROSEMARY’S BABY, 1968

Wednesday, 9 a.m., AMC

One of the most terrifying movies of all time is this thought-provoking Roman Polanski movie from Ira Levin’s novel. Rosemary (Mia Farrow), a young housewife and her out-of-work actor husband, Guy (John Cassavetes), snag a cheap apartment in a great NYC building filled with friendly, busybody tenants (Ruth Gordon, Sidney Blackmer). Guy’s luck changes when Rosemary gets pregnant. Too bad hubby’s made a pact with the satanists next door to get her pregnant with the Antichrist. Damn! Literally. Do not miss it! Gordon won Best Supporting Actress.

MILK, 2008

Thursday, 6:30 a.m., USA

Sean Penn won a Best Actor Oscar for his extraordinary performance as activist Harvey Milk, who in 1970s San Francisco became the first openly gay man elected to public office in the US. The film traces Milk’s life from his 40th birthday when his camera shop became a hangout for San Fran’s gay community to his assassination by a former ally, City Supervisor Dan White (Josh Brolin). Milk was a flawed man fighting the good fight. With James Franco and Alison Pill.

THE DAY THE EARTH

STOOD STILL, 1951

Thursday, 2:15 a.m., AMC

What would seem like the classic “B” movie of the decade is actually an “A” film with a message. Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal are terrific in this tale of an alien who lands on Earth with a message about the future of our planet but immediately is attacked, and so assumes human form and goes undercover.

ANIMAL KINGDOM, 2010

Saturday, 11:10 p.m., Ch. 13

Although not a big bucks movie in the US, this Australian film holds the record for the most nominations by the Australian Film Institute. Yes, it’s that good. When his mother dies of an overdose, 17-year-old “J” Cody (James Frecheville) has no choice but to go live with his grandma, Smurf (Jacki Weaver), a woman with a nearly incestuous love for her insanely violent sons. Whew. With Joel Edgerton.
