Dish, Cablevision appear near deal to settle $2.4B Voom case

Dish Network and Cablevision appear to be in talks to settle their long-running legal spat over the cable operator’s defunct Voom TV service.

A document filed today in New York Supreme Court, titled “Possible Settlement,” suggests they are nearing a settlement and that it could be announced as early as Monday morning.

Dish could pay anywhere between $200 million and $1 billion to settle the case, according to a report from Barclays analyst Anthony DiClemente.

Cablevision has sued Dish for $2.4 billion for dropping its Voom channel lineup from its satellite-TV service before their 15-year contract was up.

Dish has suffered a number of setbacks in the case and has been blasted by the judge for using delaying tactics, as well as failing to produce documents and evidence in the case.

Judge Richard Lowe adjourned the trial on Wednesday until Monday morning.

“This is very significant as the judge may have wanted the lawyers to have a clear four to five days to iron out all the issues,” said Susquehanna Financial litigation analyst Thomas Claps.
