As Alex Rodriguez was relegated to watch last night’s ALCS Game 3 in Detroit from the Yankees bench, A Rod the 4-year-old gelding comes off the bench to make his second start of the year today at Belmont Park.

A Rod originally was slated to run last Thursday at Belmont, but was scratched by trainer Carlos Martin after the race was removed from the turf course to the dirt. He finished sixth against $15,000 claimers on Feb. 18 at Aqueduct.

The winner of two races from 17 career starts has earned $58,155, and will make his debut for Martin after moving to his barn earlier this year.

Unlike his human namesake, no matter the odds, A Rod the horse runs hard every time.

Post time for the sixth race is about 3:30 p.m.
