Harper’s Bazaar’s O’Neill to be named editor of WSJ Magazine

Kristina O’Neill, the executive editor of Harper’s Bazaar, was tapped as the new editor of WSJ Magazine, the Wall Street Journal’s lifestyle magazine.

O’Neill, the No. 2 editor at Harper’s Bazaar, will replace Deborah Needleman, who jumped last month to T magazine, the New York Times’ fashion magazine.

O’Neill’s departure comes the same week that Harper’s Bazaar won a coveted place on Advertising Age’s annual A-list of magazines. She has been with the magazine since 2000 and played a big role in the its recent redesign.

“It has been a delight working with Kristina for the past 11 years — she is a true talent, and this is a life-changing opportunity,” Glenda Bailey, editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, said. “We wish her all the best in her new role.”

WSJ Magazine has disclosed plans to increase its frequency over the next two years.

“The appointment of Kristina, one of America’s most talented editors, marks a new phase of the exponential evolution of WSJ,” said Robert Thomson, editor-in-chief of Dow Jones and managing editor of The Journal.
