An Upper East Side lawmaker misused taxpayer dollars by sending voters a partisan newsletter that blasts “radical right-wing politicians” and promotes his re-election, critics charge.
The controversial pro-abortion mailing, published for Democratic Assemblyman Micah Kellner, was approved by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s office.
“The Radical Right is waging a 50 state war on women’s reproductive rights . . . In New York, Assemblyman Micah Kellner is fighting back,” the mailing states.
But a government watchdog group slammed Kellner’s recent mailing as inappropriate.
“This does read more like a campaign mailer than a report to constituents on legislative action. It certainly does blur the line,” said Citizens Union director Dick Dadey.
Michael Zumblushkas, Kellner’s Republican-Independent challenger and other GOP officials, cried foul.
“This is beyond the pale,” said Zumblushkas, who supports abortion rights.
Kellner and Silver’s office defended the mailing as within Assembly guidelines.
