A maternity-ward nurse was scolded like a child yesterday for sounding a baby-abduction alarm on Douglas Kennedy although she knew he wasn’t trying to steal his own son.
Nurse Anna Lane called for a “Code Pink” after Kennedy, the youngest son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, tried to walk outside a Westchester hospital with his newborn son on Jan. 7.
Kennedy, who’s on trial on harassment and child-endangerment charges, said she overreacted.
“You didn’t think he was stealing the baby, did you?” Kennedy lawyer Robert Gottlieb asked Lane on cross-examination.
“No,” she replied after a long pause.
“Did you have any questions that Douglas was the father?”
“No.”
Gottlieb went on to paint Lane as a money-grubbing opportunist seeking revenge after being denigrated by an irate Kennedy.
“You knew your leverage in a personal-injury lawsuit would be enhanced” by a criminal case or conviction, Gottlieb said.
Kennedy declined to comment outsidef court.
