Giants’ Sandoval hits three home runs in World Series Game 1

It’s Panda-monium in San Francisco.

Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval clubbed three home runs in the first five innings to carry San Francisco to a win in Game 1 of the World Series against Detroit.

Sandoval, who goes by the colorful moniker “Kung Fu Panda,” matched Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth and Albert Pujols as the only players in Major League Baseball history to hit three home runs in a World Series game.

The first two home runs, a solo shot in the first inning and a two-run blast in the third inning came off Tigers ace Justin Verlander. Sandoval’s third homer, another solo home run, came off of Detroit reliever Al Albuquerque in the bottom of the fifth inning.

He also added a single in the seventh inning as the Giants won 8-3.

Sandoval is hitting .351 with six home runs and 15 RBI in the 2012 Postseason after finishing the season batting .283 with 12 home runs and 63 RBI.
