GOPer spurs rape furor

A Republican US Senate candidate’s suggestion that pregnancy caused by rape is “intended” by God sparked a free-for-all yesterday among Democrats trying to use the remark to damage Mitt Romney.

Richard Mourdock, of Indiana, made the remark during a debate Tuesday. Romney has disavowed the comment, but he has not pulled his endorsement of Mourdock.

“I don’t know how [they] come up with these ideas . . . rape is rape, it is a crime’’ Obama said on the “Tonight Show.’’

“These various distinctions about rape don’t make . . . any sense to me.”
