Jets report card

OFFENSE

The Jets moved the ball, gaining 403 yards and putting together some good drives. The problems came on a few huge mistakes and when they settled for field goals instead of touchdowns a few times. QB Mark Sanchez (28-of-41, 328 yards, one TD, one INT) made some pretty throws (like the touchdown to Dustin Keller) and some awful ones (the interception). WR Stephen Hill has to catch the ball. His drop in the fourth quarter was a killer. B

DEFENSE

Tom Brady and Co. did not do much against the Jets defense, except when it counted most. The Jets did a nice job of getting the Patriots off the field for a large chunk of the game, but then allowed Brady to march 54 yards in six plays for the game-tying field goal. Kyle Wilson committed a questionable penalty in overtime to keep the Patriots’ drive alive. The Jets forced no turnovers. B-

SPECIAL TEAMS

A kickoff return for a touchdown by the Patriots’ Devin McCourty took all the momentum the Jets had gained on their first drive away. Mike Westhoff’s crew forced a fumble they recovered at the end of the game to set up the go-ahead field goal. Nick Folk continues to be perfect this season. He hit four field goals, three from over 40 yards. B

COACHING

The Jets were not expected to be in this game, but they fought the Patriots toe-to-toe. Rex Ryan deserves credit for having his team ready. There were time management issues, though, and again Tony Sparano seemed to forget about Tim Tebow for a long stretch of the game. Tebow was effective on the first drive and then not heard from again. Mike Pettine had a nice plan against Brady, but his group was passive on the game-tying drive at the end of regulation.C+
