Hudson Yards developer tries to amend MTA deal

In a step that could affect the timetable for Hudson Yards, the sprawling project’s developer is trying to change the terms of its deal with the MTA, which owns the 26-acre rail yard, The Post has learned.

MTA chairman Joseph Lhota told The Post: “Related has approached the MTA to amend the existing deal. I am willing to entertain it so long as the MTA’s interests are fully protected.”

Related’s Hudson Yards is a pet project of Mayor Bloomberg. The first building to go up on the 26-acre MTA-owned parcel — which stretches from 10th to 12th avenues and from West 30th Street to 33rd Street — is to be the new 47-story headquarters of luxury leather-maker Coach.

A groundbreaking is expected sometime this month.

But any change in terms of the 99-year lease — where Related would pay the MTA about $1 billion over time — could throw a monkey wrench into the timing.

Lhota wouldn’t say what changes Related wanted. Related officials yesterday denied to The Post they were seeking to change any terms.

Lhota evidently sees it differently.
