‘Newsroom’ scribe takes on life in ‘City Hall’

ABC is tackling life in a big-city political machine.

The network has ordered a drama called “City Hall,” which will be written by “Newsroom” scribe Gideon Yago.

The series will revolve around the personal and professional lives of the mayor of Oakland, Calif. and her staff — all of whom are in their 20s and 30s — while they take on the establishment, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The show, which is being described as a mixture of “St. Elmo’s Fire” and “The West Wing,” will be executive-produced by Bob Sertner, who produces ABC’s Sunday-night drama, “Revenge.”

Yago, who grew up in Queens, got his start as a reporter for MTV News and also produced and wrote “The Wrap,” a weekly newsmagazine that aired on MTV2.

He then moved on to CBS News for a short time as a writer and correspondent.

He was let go from HBO’s “Newsroom” — created and written by Aaron Sorkin — in July, along with others from the writing staff, when the show retooled for its second season, according to the report.

There’s no word, yet, on possible casting, or when “City Hall” is slated to premiere on ABC.

Sertner is also serving as an executive producer on “Mistresses,” ABC’s prime-time soap scheduled to premiere next summer with star Alyssa Milano.
