Veteran Knicks will go captain by committee

The Knicks have a lot of captain candidates, but as of yet no captains.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson so far has decided not to name any, according to a player. Last season, Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony served as co-captains. But this season, the elderly Knicks have too many possibilities to choose from and will have an unofficial leadership-by-committee.

Tyson Chandler was the unofficial leader last season without the title. Jason Kidd could easily be a captain, along with Marcus Camby, Kurt Thomas and former Knicks captain Raymond Felton.

“We have a team full of captains,’’ one player told The Post. “It’s about who are the couple of guys who are going to step up and grab it.’’

In Syracuse last week, Woodson said he wanted to see Anthony become more of a leader. Anthony, however, responded by saying he doesn’t think he needs to be that leader this season because of the roster makeup.

“I think it’s everybody — I want to learn this year from guys like Jason, Marcus, Kurt, Rasheed [Wallace],’’ Anthony said.

* Rasheed Wallace was at the Garden for the first time as a Knick on Sunday and appreciates the building’s history and renovation.

“That’s why they didn’t tear it down and built it up, because of its history,’’ Wallace said. “MSG has been up for a long time. So many events, concerts, boxing shows, basketball. You can’t knock down history.’’

Anthony continues to sing the praises of the post-Jeremy Lin point guard situation. He can’t talk enough about Felton, Kidd and Pablo Prigioni. “We have multiple guys who can control the basketball and you can play two of the guys at the same time,’’ Anthony said. “We’re going to take advantage of it.”

* Former Knicks broadcaster Marv Albert isn’t predicting anything big for the team. In a TNT conference call, Albert said of the Knicks’ chances: “It’s hard to tell because Stoudemire, you don’t know his situation in terms of injury-wise … Even though he had a terrific season two years ago, before Carmelo came, that’s one of the reasons Phoenix had no problem letting him go. I don’t know if Carmelo and Amar’e can play together on a consistent basis effectively, and that’s the major question.”

“On paper, they have guys who have played very well in the past, but they’re all older players and you don’t know what kind of injuries are going to set in with ankles and hamstrings.’’
