Bars do fine and $andy

Many New Yorkers happily rode out the storm on bar stools.

“It’s been pretty steady since this morning,” said the bartender at Johnny Foxes on the Upper East Side. “It seems like people have nowhere else to go.”

One customer there, Kaitlin Jaxheimer said, “I was happy to see it was still open!” adding, “So for now, I’m just killing time, waiting for the storm to end.”

Other places offered Sandy specials or pitches like the tweet from the Artichoke bar on 17th Street saying, “Come watch the weather live and get drunk.”

At jampacked Brickyard in Hell’s Kitchen, bartender Rachel Grachan was running the place solo. “We’re going to stay open as long as we can,” she said. “We hope until 4 a.m.”
