Principals union all worked up

Many city employees heeded Mayor Bloomberg’s order to show up to work yesterday, but the principals union did not take the edict in stride.

The Council of School Supervisors and Administrators was furious its employees had to report to field and central offices despite a mass-transit shutdown and the closing of public schools yesterday and today.

“To put adults at risk in this way is unconscionable,” the union fumed in a statement.

“We urge our members to exercise good judgment regarding their safety and their families’ well-being when they decide whether or not to report to [work].”

Bloomberg defended his decision at a briefing yesterday morning, emphasizing that individual commissioners could allow their staff to leave at any time.

“We are here to serve the public and if you can’t get in, you can’t get in,” the mayor said.

“Once you get your work done, if you’re not needed for the rest of the day, it’s up to each commissioner.

“They can decide to let you go home early . . . Life isn’t always pleasant.”
